COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Ohio Gov. John Kasich has signed legislation that bars health insurance plans involved in state health exchanges from covering abortions.

The American Civil Liberties Union says it will challenge the law in court, The Columbus Dispatch reported. The legislature passed the bill during a flurry of action as the session came to an end.

The bill was one of 13 Kasich signed Wednesday.

Ohio currently has no state health insurance exchange, but President Obama's healthcare law requires states to have one set up by 2014.

"Ohio is witnessing historic gains in legislation that protects mothers and saves unborn babies," Mike Gonidakis, executive director for Ohio Right to Life, said.

Kasich also signed bills to recognize dyslexia as a learning disability, to set up a pilot program for early screening, and to train kindergarten and elementary school teachers to recognize dyslexia.
