Couple allegedly stole Christmas parcels

SOMERVILLE, Mass., Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Police in the Boston area are trying to get a huge pile of packages allegedly stolen by a couple delivered by Christmas.

Manual Sheehan, 27, and his girlfriend, Kristen Casey, 26, were charged with receiving stolen property, the Boston Herald reported. They were arrested Tuesday after a police officer pulled over their car.

Somerville Police Chief Thomas Pasquarello said the car was "full to the brim" with parcels, and investigators found many more at Sheehan's home. Police in the city had been looking for thieves because of a rash of reports of missing deliveries.

The couple allegedly followed delivery trucks, looking for packages left outside.

Pasquarello said there were more than 100 packages at the house, so many that a classroom at the police academy was converted to a temporary storage room.

"We're working to get them back to people in time for the holiday," he said.

Sheehan has a history of arrests and drug abuse, WCVB-TV, Boston, reported.

"My brother's had a hard time in life. That's why I hired a lawyer for my brother and he's getting treatment," his brother, Kevin, said.
