Occupy Denver protesters removed from site

DENVER, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Occupy Denver protesters set fire to tents and scuffled with police Monday as they were forced from their encampment at Denver's Civic Center, officials said.

Police Chief Robert White had warned the protestors they'd be removed forcibly if necessary, The Denver Post said Tuesday

The Post said there was some shoving by police in the process of removing the protesters shortly before midnight and firefighters were called in to put out fires started by two protestors, who were arrested on arson charges. Two other protesters were arrested on charges of failing to obey a lawful order.

A group of about 40 protesters took a prayerful knee and sang "God Bless America" before they retreated from the site, the Post reported.

In Vermont, police removed remaining tents and possessions from the Occupy Brattleboro encampment Monday. The police department said it appeared the remaining items were abandoned, the Brattleboro (Vt.) Reformer said.
