Ex-Fla. teacher guilty of sex with boy

MIAMI, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- A former Florida teacher accused of having sex with a 14-year-old student accepted a plea deal Monday that will put her in prison for three years.

Kristen Sullivan, 27, will face three years with five years' probation upon her release but will not be labeled a sexual predator, WTVJ-TV, Miami, reported.

Sullivan pleaded no contest to charges of aggravated battery and aggravated child abuse as part of the plea deal.

She said no to a second offered plea bargain that would have kept her out of prison but would have labeled her a sexual predator, WTVJ-TV reported.

Sullivan had faced two counts of sexual battery on a minor and two counts of lewd and lascivious battery on a minor.

The sexual battery charges, a first-degree felony, could have resulted in 30-year sentences on each count, prosecutors said.

Sullivan, who resides in Plantation and taught computers at Lauderhill Middle School, was arrested in April 2010 after a girlfriend of the teenage boy discovered he and Sullivan were having sex, authorities said.
