Man pleads guilty to beating 2-year-old

ALLENTOWN, Pa., Dec. 15 (UPI) -- A 25-year-old Pennsylvania man has pleaded guilty to torturing a 2-year-old girl because he considered her a spoiled "princess."

Brandon Bishop, 25, of Allentown, listened quietly in court Wednesday as Lehigh County Chief Deputy District Attorney Matthew Falk read the facts of the case, The (Easton) Express-Times reported.

Falk said Bishop, who was engaged to the girl's mother and lived with the girl from March to May, beat the girl, held her up by her hair, kicked her, dropped her to the floor and smacked her with a metal spoon for months.

"He indicated he did these things," Falk said in court, "because she was a princess and needed to be tougher."

Bishop pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in a plea deal that saw charges of attempted homicide, simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child dismissed.

Bishop faces up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced next month.

Candace Watts, the mother of the girl, admitted she knew what was happening but never called police.

She pleaded guilty Wednesday to a count of child endangerment and faces up to seven years in prison, The (Allentown) Morning Call reported.
