PHOENIX, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- One person was killed and another injured Thursday when a single-engine Cirrus SR22 plane crashed near the Scottsdale, Ariz., airport, officials said.

The plane crashed a half-mile south of the runway, at about 10 a.m., Phoenix Fire Department spokesman Scott McDonald told The Arizona Republic.

The plane, which crashed on its approach to the airport, was carrying two people, one of whom was killed, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating, the newspaper said.
