Man tries to run over ex-girlfriend, disasters follow

COLUMBIA, Tenn., Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Police in Columbia, Tenn., said a surveillance video shows a man trying to run down a woman with his pickup truck, starting a series of disasters.

The truck missed the woman, but Eric Whitaker plowed his truck into the Columbia Market on Hampshire Pike, colliding with the store owner and clerk Surendra Patel, WTVF-TV, Nashville, reported. The video shows Patel under the debris, but somehow getting out and walking away.

Whitaker then ran from the store and stole a sports utility vehicle, police said. The SUV, which belonged to nurse Andrea Kreisel, then collided with a bread truck.

Kreisel saw much of what was going on and stopped to help the injured. That's when Whitaker stole her vehicle, police said.

The suspect was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center and was listed as critical. Patel was recovering at home.

Officials said Whitaker will be arrested when released.
