LOS ANGELES, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- A music industry executive who was wounded when a gunman opened fire at motorists and pedestrians in Los Angeles Friday, died Monday, police said.
John Atterberry, 40, who also worked in the real estate industry, was driving his Mercedes-Benz near Sunset Boulevard and Vine Street Friday when he was shot three times in the face and neck by Tyler Brehm, 26, police said. Brehm fired about 20 rounds from his .40-caliber gun before police killed him.
The Los Angeles Times reported Atterberry got his start in the music business with Tabu Records. After a stint in the fashion industry, he became vice president of Death Row Records, whose clientele included Tupac Shakur, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dog, the newspaper said.
He later founded the music publishing firm Infusion Music Group, where he worked on albums for Christina Aguilera, Michael Jackson, Brandy, the Spice Girls and Jessica Simpson.
A former girlfriend told KTLA-TV, Los Angeles, she and Brehm had ended their longtime relationship days before the shooting took place, and said he seemed stressed out and might have been taking prescription medicine.
