SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Four people were killed Friday in the crash of a twin-engine plane near Sioux Falls Regional Airport, officials in South Dakota said.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue Chief Jim Sideras told reporters at a news conference the plane was bound for Rapid City when it evidently had some mechanical trouble and crashed just after leaving the runway at around 2:30 p.m., the (Sioux Falls) Argus Leader reported.
The Sioux Falls Police Department said the victims were identified as Brian Blake, 54, of Sioux Falls, the pilot, and three passengers -- Kevin Anderson, 50, of Sioux Falls; Joshua Lambrecht, 30, of Brandon; and Daniel Swets, 47, of Sioux Falls.
An eyewitness, John Dahlin, said he saw the plane flying low before it went nose down into the ground. He said fuel sprayed after the plane hit and the craft caught fire.
The Federal Aviation Administration was called in to investigate, the newspaper said.
