Maintenance man charged with killing girl

CANTON, Ga., Dec. 7 (UPI) -- A maintenance worker at the apartment complex where a slain 7-year-old Georgia girl lived was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of killing her, police said.

Ryan Brunn, 20, is scheduled to appear in court Thursday, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. He had been working at the River Ridge apartments in Canton, about 30 miles north of Atlanta, for a month and also lived here, investigators said.

Jorelys Rivera was last seen Friday at a playground. Brunn allegedly kidnapped her, took her to an empty apartment where she was raped, beaten and stabbed, and then hid her body in a dumpster.

The body was discovered Monday.

Vernon Keenan, head of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, said blood found in an empty apartment was being tested. He said the investigation of what he called a "mammoth case" is far from over.

At a news conference Wednesday, Keenan said the killing was "planned and calculated."
