RENO, Nev., Dec. 7 (UPI) -- An airport baggage handler in Reno, Nev., fired after refusing to let an emaciated dog be shipped from the airport has been offered her job back.
Sally Leible, president of Airport Terminal Services, said Wednesday the St. Louis-based airport contractor has offered to reinstate Lynn Jones to her position at Reno-Tahoe International Airport.
"We've made an offer for Jones to be fully reinstated to her position with back pay," Leible told the Reno Gazette-Journal. "We are hopeful that this valued team member will rejoin us."
Leible said the company will donate $5,000 to the Nevada Humane Society. "[The incident] is a valuable reminder for all of our employees nationwide, and we intend to move forward with a renewed commitment to recognize and report animal abuse in any form," she said.
Jones, 56, of Lockwood, was fired from her job Nov. 12 after she balked at loading an underweight hunting dog onto a plane bound for Corpus Christi, Texas. The animal was covered with sores and its paws were bleeding, witnesses told the newspaper.
