Boy missing; dad wins custody of girl

SEATTLE, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Sky Metalwala, 2, is missing but his father has been awarded custody of his 4-year-old daughter, at a Monday custody hearing in Kent, Wash.

The custody is pending removal of a restraining order, KOMO-TV, Seattle, reported.

Officials say Sky's mother, Julia Biryukova, claimed she ran out of gas in Bellevue, Wash., in early November. She told police she then left Sky in the car while she walked to a gas station.

The boy has been missing since the incident.

The report said the couple's daughter has been living with a foster family but the father, Salomon Metalwala, had fought for sole custody.

The father said Biryukova suffers from severe obsessive-compulsive disorder, going on cleaning binges in which she wouldn't feed the children, the report said. But a doctor said her diagnosis didn't interfere with her ability to care for the children.

KOMO said the estranged couple was in the middle of a bitter divorce and custody battle when Sky disappeared.

The report said the couple has a previous record of leaving Sky alone in a car in a store parking lot in Redmond, Calif., when he was 3 months old in 2009.
