Infant-starving couple lose custody of three children

SEATTLE, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- A Washington state couple convicted of starving their infant daughter last year will lose permanent custody of all three of their children, a judge has ruled.

King County Superior Judge Patricia Clark issued the ruling against Brittainy and Samuel Labberton at the conclusion of a nine-day dependency trial, The Seattle Times reported Tuesday.

Labberton, 22, is pregnant with the couple's fourth child, but no determination has been made on that child's custody.

Mental-health providers who worked with the couple since they came to the attention of state child welfare staff three years ago testified at the trial.

They all agreed the couple's parental rights should be terminated, a legal source familiar with the case told the Times.

Child Protection Services said Brittainy Labberton complained that her infant daughter, who is now 2 years old, had become fat. The child was hospitalized because of low weight and later placed in foster care.
