WASHINGTON, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- U.S. business mogul Donald Trump has threatened to spend millions of dollars on a presidential run if the Republicans fail to nominate a strong candidate.

In his new book, "Time to Get Tough," Trump also details his net worth -- he pegs it at $7 billion -- and says he is ready to sink a sizable chunk of his $270 million in liquid assets into a presidential bid, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.

"He's prepared to finance an independent run for president if he's not satisfied with the Republican nominee," said Michael Cohen, Trump's assistant.

Trump intimated he was mulling a presidential bid in the spring, including conducting a high-profile, campaign-esque trip to New Hampshire before announcing he would not toss his hat into the ring.

In the book, due next month, Trump blames President Obama for the country's economic ills, the Journal said. He claims Obama spent much of his time traveling "around the world apologizing for the country" and "playing nice with China."

Cohen says the book would transition well into a presidential bid because it is "very political."

Cohen said he was doing advance work in case Trump does enter the race, a decision the assistant said would come "in the first week in June."

"I already mapped out everything that has to be done to be an effective candidate and what we'd have to do to get on the ballot on all 50 states," Cohen said.
