NYC teacher accused of raping boy

NEW YORK, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- A New York teacher has been charged with raping a boy who was a student in her sixth-grade class, and giving him drugs and alcohol, police said.

Claudia Tillery, 42, of New York's Brooklyn borough, was arrested Tuesday after the victim came forward with the allegations, the New York Daily News reported Wednesday. She was charged with rape, unlawful dealing of drugs and alcohol to a child, sexual misconduct, sexual abuse and acting in a manner injurious to a child.

The boy, now 14, said he had been involved in a sexual relationship with Tillery, a humanities teacher at Stephen Decatur School and mother of two, since 2009. He decided to end the relationship and notify authorities of what had happened.

"I'm in shock," said a woman whose daughter was in Tillery's class last year.
"I still can't believe this happened. Why would anyone do this? I'm ready to pull my kids out of the school. When your own child is affected by something like this, it's scary."
