GOP's Herman Cain draws media criticism

WASHINGTON, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- U.S. Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain drew media criticism Saturday after a week of unusual and hesitating comments.

Cain, a 66-year-old businessman who hasn't served in any state or federal elected positions, came under media fire based on an interview with the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

In the interview, Cain made an apparent gaffe on his knowledge of foreign affairs with regard to Libya, The Hill newspaper said.

"I agree that they now have a country where you've got Taliban and al-Qaida that's going to be part of the government?" Cain said.

The Washington Post also took aim at Cain for one of his responses in the interview, noting Cain faltered on a query about President Barack Obama's policy on Libya.

"No, that's a different one. I've got to go back, got all this stuff twirling around in my head," the Post quoted Cain as saying.

The Hill also noted Cain as saying in October he didn't put much emphasis on who was "the president of Ubeki-beki-beki-stan."
