DALLAS, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- A rocking chair President John F. Kennedy used the day before he was gunned down in Dallas is being auctioned with other Kennedy memorabilia.
The chair, supplied for the presidential suite by managers at the Rice Hotel in Houston because they knew Kennedy preferred hard-backed rockers, is expected to fetch at least $25,000, the Houston Chronicle reported. The chair may have been the last one Kennedy used.
William Manchester, in his book "Death of a President," describes Kennedy sitting in the rocking chair stripped to his shorts and working on a speech while his wife, Jacqueline, napped in the bedroom. The couple spent several hours in Houston on Nov. 21, 1963, but spent the night in Fort Worth.
The chair is the highlight of a Dec. 1 sale by Heritage Auctions in Dallas. Other items include a model of PT-109, the ship Kennedy served on during World War II, a signed copy of the president's book, "Profiles in Courage" and Kennedy family photographs.
