The Athens County Emergency Management Agency said several fires were reported on the pipeline route with at least one house and barn on fire.

One person was taken to an Athens hospital for treatment of respiratory problems but there were no other injuries reported, the agency said.

Witnesses reported flames hundreds of feet high before maintenance crews managed to stop the flow of gas through the pipeline.

The pipeline, which with its feeder lines totals 14,000 miles, cuts through southeastern Ohio carrying natural gas from southern Texas to New England.
