Fla. executes triple killer Oba Chandler

STARKE, Fla., Nov. 15 (UPI) -- The state of Florida Tuesday executed Oba Chandler, convicted in 1994 of raping and killing a woman and her two teenage daughters 22 years ago.

The 65-year-old killer was pronounced dead at 4:25 p.m. following his injection with lethal drugs about 4:08 p.m. at Florida State Prison in Starke, WFTS-TV, Tampa, reported.

The death penalty was carried out after the U.S. Supreme Court declined Tuesday to review Chandler's case, Florida prison officials said.

He was served his final meal -- two salami sandwiches and half a peanut butter sandwich -- at 11 a.m., prison officials said.

Chandler had no spiritual adviser and refused visitors, Gretl Plessinger, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Corrections, told The Tampa Tribune.

The bodies of Joan Rogers and her daughters, Michelle and Christe, were found floating in Tampa Bay in 1989. Prosecutors said the three victims, who were visiting Florida from their home in Willshire, Ohio, had been kidnapped, and probably raped and drowned, the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times reported. Chandler was arrested for the murders in 1992.
