California man arrested for killing bobcat

MORGAN HILL, Calif., Nov. 15 (UPI) -- A California man faces charges he used methamphetamine, possessed cockfighting tools, and killed and skinned a bobcat before eating it, officials said.

Henry Arnibal, 38, of Morgan Hill confessed to eating the bobcat after his Nov. 7 arrest, the San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News reported Tuesday.

Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Steve Lowney said it wasn't illegal for Hill to eat the animal, but it is illegal to kill it.

Arnibal will face the charges in court Nov. 22.

Santa Clara County sheriff's deputies were looking for a marijuana farm when they discovered Arnibal living in a trailer on the property.

Authorities say they found 50 roosters along with cockfighting gaffs, sharp hooks attached to roosters' legs during illegal fighting, and the preserved carcass of a bobcat. They also allegedly observed Arnibal to be using methamphetamine.

Lowney said there wasn't enough evidence to prove Arnibal was using the roosters for cockfighting.
