ALPINE, Calif., Nov. 11 (UPI) -- A man drove into oncoming traffic on a California highway and died after learning his son had died in a car accident hours earlier.
The tragic day for the Sambhi family started when Natalia Sambhi and her son, Devon, 16, were involved in a car crash Thursday morning, KTLA-TV, Los Angeles reported.
Sambhi, 55, apparently lost control of the truck after possibly suffering a blown tire, police say. The truck rolled on Interstate 8.
While the woman survived the crash, her 16-year-old son was ejected from the truck and died at the scene.
Several hours later, Sumil Sambhi, the teen's father, was killed in a head-on collision while driving the wrong way on the same highway.
Sumil Sambhi, 48, was reportedly deeply upset over the death of his son.
He was airlifted to a hospital but died later. A father and his 19-year-old son in the car Sumil Sambhi struck suffered moderate injuries.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision as a possible suicide.
