SAN DIEGO, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- A San Diego area historic mansion involved in two deaths has been sold to an investment group, a real estate company handling the property says.
The group is in escrow on the historic Spreckels mansion in Coronado owned by Arizona pharmaceutical tycoon Jonah Shacknai, whose 6-year-old son Max died after accidentally falling over a second-story railing and whose girlfriend Rebecca Zahau was found hanging from a balcony in July, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported Monday.
Pacific Sotheby's International Realty, which handled the sale, would not disclose details of the deal, including the purchase price or the identity of the buyers, the newspaper said.
Shacknai, founder and CEO of Medicis Pharmaceutical Corp. in Phoenix, bought the home in 2007 and used it as a summer home.
His son died in a fall near the home's grand staircase July 11, and Zahau's nude and bound body was found hanging from a guest bedroom balcony two days later.
The Medical Examiner's Office and Sheriff's Department ruled her death a suicide, an assertion strongly denied by her family, which has hired an attorney and a private pathologist to investigate.
