LAKE WORTH VILLAGE, Fla., Oct. 27 (UPI) -- The decomposing body of a 64-year-old Florida man found in a bathtub has been identified and investigators say his wife has been taken into custody.

Palm Beach County Sheriff's investigators said Wednesday the body they found Monday is likely that of John McCann, 64, the Palm Beach (Fla.) Post reported.

His body "appears to have been there for several months," said sheriff's office spokesman Deputy Eric Davis in a release, adding that the identification would not be official until the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner's Office confirms it.

McCann's wife, Sharon, was taken into custody Tuesday under the Florida Mental Health Act. She was taken to JFK Medical Center where she was to remain for at least 72 hours and will undergo psychiatric examinations.

Neighbors say they had seen Sharon McCann on a daily basis, but had not seen John McCann for months.

"I wouldn't have thought that she was crazy," said Michael Ingraham, 30, who lives across the street. "I would say that she just kept to herself."

Police were called to the couple's Lake Worth Village, Fla., home Monday after John McCann's sister, who lives out of state and had not been able to reach her brother for some time, asked the sheriff's office to conduct a welfare checkup.

Investigators were trying to determine why Sharon McCann did not report he husband's death. A medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Davis said investigators have found "nothing unusual about the death" and are waiting for a toxicology report. No arrests have been made and no charges are pending.
