Bodies of slain family may be moved

CHESTER, Ill., Oct. 19 (UPI) -- The family of homicide victims Sheri Coleman and her two sons want to move their bodies from the Illinois cemetery selected by their killer.

The three were buried in southern Illinois before Christopher Coleman was charged with killing his family. He is now serving a life sentence with no possibility of parole.

Angela DeCicco, Sheri Coleman's mother, and her brother Mario DeCicco applied Monday to transfer the bodies from Evergreen Cemetery in Chester, Ill., the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. Pat Laramore, the Randolph County clerk, said Christopher Coleman will have a chance to object to the transfer.

The DeCiccos want to transfer the bodies to Queen of Heaven Cemetery in the Chicago area.

Belleville lawyer Jack Carey said the DeCiccos filled out the required forms in June, a few weeks after Christopher Coleman was convicted. But he said they needed time "to breathe" before making the official request.

"The murderer shouldn't get to decide where his victims are buried," Carey said.

After the killings in 2009, the bodies were taken to the Chicago area for a viewing and then returned to Chester, Christopher Coleman's hometown. Coleman, who claimed he was working out at a health club when his family was killed, was arrested about two weeks later.
