SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 13 (UPI) -- The operators of a San Jose, Calif., hot dog stand were indicted for allegedly selling drugs and guns to undercover officers, federal prosecutors said Thursday.
Jose Gilbeto Ortiz, 58, of San Jose and Guillermo Castillo, 23, Los Angeles were charged with selling a machine gun and a sawed-off shotgun and about 15 other guns at the mobile stand in a neighborhood near downtown San Jose.
Ortiz and Castillo were originally arrested last month and were arraigned in federal court Thursday on gun, drug and immigration charges, the U.S. Attorney's office in San Francisco said in a written statement.
Prosecutors said the defendants allegedly sold firearms and methamphetamine to undercover San Jose police officers and agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The statement noted that Ortiz was an ex-convict and Castillo was in the United States illegally, making it illegal for either of them to own a gun.
