PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Eleven people were charged in a prostitution raid in a Mummers clubhouse in South Philadelphia, police said.

Philadelphia police, acting on a tip, found naked and barely clothed women performing sex acts and soliciting about 50 customers Tuesday night inside the Downtowners Fancy Brigade clubhouse, the Philadelphia Daily News reported.

Deputy Police Commissioner William Blackburn said 10 women were charged with solicitation and one man was charged with promoting prostitution. Two people were charged with liquor violations, the newspaper said.

Blackburn said they had received a tip that the second floor of the clubhouse operated as a brothel every second Tuesday of the month between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m.

The Downtowners Fancy Brigade was formed in 1959 when it was accepted into the Fancy Brigade Division of the Mummers Parade, which performs in Philadelphia on New Year's Day.
