HARTFORD, Conn., Oct. 12 (UPI) -- A jury began deliberations Wednesday in the case of a man accused of killing a Connecticut mother and her two daughters during a home-invasion robbery.
Joshua Komisarjevsky is accused of killing Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her daughters Hayley and Michaela and burning their home in a 2007 home invasion in Cheshire, the Hartford Courant reported.
He is also accused of beating the husband and father, Dr. William Petit Jr., with a baseball bat.
A co-defendant, Steven Hayes, has already been convicted of murder in the triple killings.
Prosecutors said Komisarjevsky spotted Hawke-Petit and 11-year-old Michaela at a supermarket hours before the home invasion, stalked the family and took Hayes to the house.
Komisarjevsky "saw a beautiful young girl, attractive mother, a nice car and he wanted to know more ... he wanted what they had," prosecutor Gary W. Nicholson said. "Make no mistake, this intrusion was Mr. Komisarjevsky's idea."
Six of the 17 charges against Komisarjevsky are capital felonies that could see Komisarjevsky facing a death penalty if convicted on one or more of them, the Courant reported.
