Powell's arrest pleases Susan Cox's dad

PUYALLUP, Wash., Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Susan Cox's father says he feels vindicated by the arrest of the missing Washington state woman's father-in-law on allegations of voyeurism.

Chuck Cox told the Salt Lake Tribune the 15 counts filed against Steve Powell exposed a smarmy side that backed up the uncomfortable feelings Susan said she had around him.

"I feel vindicated," Cox said at his home in Puyallup, Wash. "That feels good."

Powell was arrested Thursday for possession of thousands of pictures of young women and minors, including Susan Cox, that were apparently taken without their knowledge. The Tribune said the images zoomed in on buttocks, breasts and other areas of the body.

Also last week, Powell was fired from his job with the Washington state corrections department. He had been an account executive selling prison-made office furniture to government agencies.

Powell had previously told the media Susan was a "sexual being" from a dysfunctional family. Friday, a Washington judge barred Powell from publishing Susan's teenage journal on the Internet to back up his claims.

Powell will instead be in court this week to answer 14 charges of voyeurism and one count of possessing sexually explicit images of minors.

Powell and his son, Josh, have had little to say since Susan vanished from the couple's Utah home in 2009. Cox said the couple moved out of Washington in large part to distance themselves from Steve Powell.

"The situation is out of their control," Cox said of the Powells "They had a lock on the information and almost everything, and now they've lost that control, which can only help the police."
