Ophelia hundreds of miles from Leewards

MIAMI, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Tropical Storm Ophelia was moving northwest in the Atlantic Ocean Saturday, nearly 300 miles east of the Leeward Islands, U.S. forecasters said.

The storm, with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, was about 295 miles east of the Leewards, the National Hurricane Center said in its 5 p.m. EDT advisory.

The storm was moving northwest at 12 mph and its movement was expected to slow by Sunday.

There were no coastal watches or warnings in effect or hazards affecting land.

Tropical storm-force winds extended outward up to 260 miles, the Hurricane Center said.
