CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Police in Charlotte, N.C., said they are investigating a possible case of child abuse involving 3-month-old triplets currently in the hospital.

Two female infants were admitted with injuries associated with suffocation while their brother appeared to be uninjured, WCNC-TV, Charlotte, reported.

Family members said the most seriously injured girl was placed in the intensive care unit. She suffered head trauma, facial bruising and a hemorrhage around the left eye.

Police did not make any immediate arrests but said they were investigating the infants' injuries as child abuse.

The name of the family was not released.
