Trustee wants bear cub banned

MEDWAY, Ohio, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- A brown bear cub named Daisy has a township trustee in Ohio growling the state needs to change laws governing exotic animals.

Nancy Brown, a trustee of Bethel Township said the Syrian bear cub, who lives in a cage outside Sean Trimbach's home in Crystal Lake, does not belong in anyone's back yard, the Dayton Daily News reported Tuesday.

"There are other houses around," Brown said. "No one should have to live across the street from a bear."

Sean Trimbach has been breeding exotic animals for more than 20 years and has a license to keep the bear on his property, the report said. He sells the animals to zoos and private owners.

The Daily News said an executive order under a previous gubernatorial administration banned the private possession, sale and transfer of exotic animals, however Gov. John Kasich let the order expire in April. The Kasich administration says it is working on policies to regulate exotic animals deemed dangerous.

Clark County's Ohio Department of Natural Resources wildlife officer said he has been getting several calls a month about the bear, the newspaper said.
