Two boys, 12, and deputy rescued in Texas

LIBERTY, Texas, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Two 12-year-old boys lost in a forest near Liberty, Texas, and the sheriff's deputy who found them were rescued early Monday, authorities said.

The Liberty County deputy found the boys, who had been missing for several hours in the Liberty area Sunday night but the three became disoriented by dense foliage and dehydration, the Houston Chronicle reported.

They were spotted by the crew of a Coast Guard helicopter and a ground crew helped them out of the forest, which was too thick for them to be airlifted out.

"The Coast Guard often relies on our partner agencies and it always feels good to be able to reciprocate and join together in a rescue effort. These boys are safe due to that teamwork," said Bill Segelken, operations controller at Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston.
