Rescued motorcyclist thanks 'heroes'

MURRAY, Utah, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- The 21-year-old motorcyclist rescued by construction workers and bystanders after a car collision in Murray, Utah, says he cried over his lost motorcycle.

"I ride that thing 95 percent of the time," Brandon Wright said at a hospital room news conference Thursday at Intermountain Medical Center. "I started crying when I saw my bike, which I know is ridiculous but I did."

Wright, who suffered fractures in his right leg and burns on his left leg, first thanked the nearly dozen people who lifted a 3,300-pound black BMW to pull him to safety as his motorcycle and the front of the car burned.

The University of Utah student was dragged unconscious by his leg from under the car's front fender in a dramatic rescue caught on video.

"They stepped up. They should get used to being called heroes because that's what they are," Wright said. "They restored my faith in humanity."

Wright said he loved the motorcycle, his first bike, and would continue riding, although he said he would wear a helmet in the future, ABC News said.

Doctors said he was lucky he did not suffer a serious head injury in the collision.
