WASHINGTON, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- A nearly equal number of Americans said they favor President Obama's jobs plan as oppose it, Rasmussen Reports said Monday.

Results indicated 38 percent of likely voters said they favor Obama's $447 billion plan while 36 percent said they oppose the plan. Twenty-six percent said they were undecided.

Sixty-six percent of Democrats said they favor the plan and 64 percent of Republicans said they oppose it, Rasmussen Reports said. A plurality -- 37 percent -- of voters not affiliated with either party said they didn't know enough about the plan to take a position.

Still, Rasmussen Reports said, 62 percent of all voters said they think Congress is somewhat likely to approve some of the president's jobs plan.

Results indicate 24 percent of voters said they think increased government spending is more likely to create new jobs than reducing government regulations on business. Sixty-two percent said they think reduced regulation is more likely to create jobs.

Results are based on a nationwide telephone survey of 1,000 likely voters conducted Saturday and Sunday. The margin of error is percentage points.
