HOUSTON, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- A man was arrested in California after DNA linked him to the 1990 death of a pregnant young mother whose body was found in a Texas woods, authorities said.

Robert Lawrence Wilson, 47, was arrested Aug. 30 in Lancaster, Calif., and charged with first-degree murder, the Houston Chronicle reported Wednesday.

Wilson had been a person of interest in the killing of Tammy Lynn Bounds, 18, who was found strangled and dumped north of Splendora, Texas, on June 21, 1990.

Authorities learned Wilson and Bounds had once lived in the same apartment complex.

Bounds' sister said she's happy about the arrest.

"It's about time -- 21 years. It's been time," Tracey Bounds told the Chronicle. "I just wish that my mom and my grandma would have made it to see it."

Tammy Bounds' grandmother Shirely Roach spent two years campaigning for justice in the case, working with the crime victim advocacy group Texans for Equal Justice.

Roach died in June.

The cold case unit of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office reopened the investigation in 2006 and said recent DNA testing helped crack the case.
