Police: Family picked pizza over relative

MADISON, Wis., Sept. 7 (UPI) -- A Wisconsin woman and her son left her 70-year-old sister linger for two days after falling until she died and then they went out for pizza, authorities allege.

Veronica King, 71, and her son Steven King, 45, of Evansville are scheduled to appear in court Thursday on charges of first-degree reckless homicide, bank fraud, hiding a corpse and recklessly subjecting an individual at risk to abuse, the Wisconsin State Journal reported.

Mary Coleman fell down at her sister's Madison home on May 7, 2009, due to what her doctor believes was a stroke, but Veronica and Steven King didn't seek medical care for her and went out for pizza after she died two days later, a complaint filed Tuesday said.

Veronica King told police she didn't call for help after Coleman died because she "had other things to do that day." The mother and son allegedly hid the body in the basement and later in the garage for more than three months until Madison police found the remains.

Dr. Robert Olson, Coleman's physician, said the woman could have survived had she received immediate medical attention.
