LAS VEGAS, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- A Las Vegas woman is expected to plead not guilty this week to charges she killed her 14-month-old goddaughter with a metal pipe last month.
Mariann Harris, 23, was scheduled to appear in Clark County District Court Thursday to answer multiple charges, including homicide and child abuse, the Las Vegas Sun reported.
Public Defender Scott Coffee said his client will "plead not guilty" in the death of Dyon Johnson.
The coroner's office ruled the baby's death a homicide caused by blunt head trauma, possibly from a green metal pipe that was found in Harris' home.
The child's mother told police Dyon was healthy when she dropped her off at Harris' house in early August for a few days.
Two of Harris' younger children said their mother beat Dyon.
