NEW YORK, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- A U.S. Navy ship built with tons of World Trade Center steel will anchor in New York City for the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.
"With the steel from the World Trade Center in her bow, the USS New York represents a powerful symbol of the deeply personal connection that New Yorkers have with our military and is a symbol of the courage and resilience of our nation," New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in a joint announcement with the Pentagon.
The ship, an amphibious transport vessel that contains about 7 tons of steel from the terrorist-toppled towers, will carry 170 members of the 9/11 Families Association when it drops anchor in the Hudson River to take part in the ceremonies honoring the victims of the attacks.
