FORT WORTH, Texas, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Texas authorities said they're suing a Fort Worth "naturopathic doctor," accusing her of unlawfully marketing and promoting dietary supplements.
In a lawsuit filed Tuesday against Valerie Saxion, 49, and her company, Valerie Saxion Inc., Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott alleges she claimed the supplements could treat illnesses, including breast cancer, diabetes, arthritis and depression.
"She's making these outrageous claims with these dietary supplements when they haven't even been proven," Tom Kelley, a spokesman for the attorney general's office, told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
The suit seeks a temporary injunction to stop Saxion from marketing and selling the products, which are promoted by telephone, a Web site and on a local television show.
The lawsuit charges Saxion violated the Texas Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act and the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, listing at least 18 violations related to health safety codes and deceptive trade practices.
