YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo., Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Park rangers are searching Yellowstone National Park for a grizzly bear that may have been responsible for the death of a hiker last week.
The hiker, a man in his 60s from Michigan, was discovered by two women Friday. Investigators believe he had been dead since at least Wednesday, the Jackson Hole (Wyo.) News & Guide reported.
Grizzly bear tracks and scat were found near his body.
"There was enough evidence at the site that we believe a bear had been there," park spokesman Al Nash said. "What remains unclear was whether the bear had arrived on that site after the victim had passed away from natural causes, or if bear had been the cause of death."
The man was found on the Mary Mountain trail, which is home to many grizzlies. The potential bear victim was not carrying any bear pepper spray at the time.
The man's body was taken to Montana for an autopsy and results are expected this week.
