WASHINGTON, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Republican U.S. presidential hopeful Jon Huntsman took fellow candidate Rick Perry to task over the Texas governor's remarks about evolution and global warming.

Huntsman, a former Utah governor and President Obama's ambassador to China, posted on his Twitter page that he believes in evolution and "trust scientists on global warming," The New York Times reported Thursday.

"Call me crazy," Huntsman posted.

While stumping in New Hampshire, Perry told a child asking about evolution that it was a theory "that's out there, and it's got some gaps in it."

Perry also raised questions about whether humans contribute to global warming.

"I do believe that the issue of global warming has been politicized," he said. "I think there are a substantial number of scientists who have manipulated data so that they will have dollars rolling into … their projects."
