Secret Service agent arrested in DUI

DECORAH, Iowa, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- A Secret Service special agent faces a drunken driving charge after being pulled over in Iowa last weekend ahead of President Barack Obama's visit, police say.

Daniel L. Valencia, 40, of Washington, allegedly ran a red light about 1:30 a.m. Saturday in Decorah, The Des Moines Register reported Wednesday. The arresting officer said he smelled alcohol on Valencia and administered a field sobriety test that led him to decide the Secret Service agent was too intoxicated to drive.

The newspaper said Valencia refused to take a preliminary breath test and to give a breath sample at the jail. He was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and released from jail Monday, court documents showed.

ABC News reported Secret Service spokesman George Ogilvie said the agency was aware of the matter and had turned it over to its Office of Professional Responsibility.

Ogilvie said Valencia was off duty at the time of his arrest but wouldn't discuss why Valencia was in Decorah, where Obama visited Monday.
