ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- A Florida man who stole a friend's identity to illegally kill a bear in Alaska has been sentenced to pay more than $66,000 in penalties, Alaska officials said.
Prosecutors said Jack Vincent Dickerson, 35, of Spring Hill, Fla., illegally killed a female brown bear in October 2009 in Game Management Unit 9 on the Alaska Peninsula, the Anchorage Daily News reported Monday.
After the hunt, however, Dickerson complained to Cabela's Outdoor Adventures, saying he'd wanted a larger male bear, and made a claim to his credit card company that someone else had made the charges for the hunt.
Dickerson pleaded guilty to one count of felony identity theft and one count of violating a wildlife protection act.
Prosecutors said Dickerson used his friend's name to apply online for a hunting license because he previously had killed a bear in GMU 9 under his own name and was not eligible for another hunt until 2012.
