TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Aug. 12 (UPI) -- The Florida Department of Children and Families says Casey Anthony failed to protect her daughter, and that contributed to Caylee's death.

DCF officials announced Thursday that a thorough three-year review of Caylee Marie's death shows Casey Anthony failed to protect the child, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported.

"It is the conclusion of the Department of Children and Families that [Casey Anthony] failed to protect her child from harm either through her actions or lack of actions, which tragically resulted in the child's untimely death," the investigation's report concluded.

The investigation by the DCF came after allegations of "abuse at the hands of [Casey Anthony]," were made in 2008.

The report says Casey Anthony failed to "report her child missing in a timely manner" and left her in the care of "a baby-sitter for which she was unable to provide accurate information."

The DCF report is not a criminal investigation, and will not bring charges against Casey Anthony.

Casey Anthony was found guilty in July of lying to Florida police in the disappearance and death of her 2-year-old daughter, but was acquitted on first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter charges.
