COLUMBUS, Ohio, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Franklin County, Ohio, will pay $68,500 to two families whose deceased children's bodies were mixed up, resulting in one being mistakenly cremated.
Commissioners Tuesday approved a settlement of $50,000 to the family of Jaylen Talley after the body of the 14-month-old was mistakenly cremated last year, WBNS-TV, Columbus, reported.
An employee at the Franklin County Coroner's office did not follow procedure and wrongfully released the child's remains to a funeral home to be cremated.
The employee has since been fired and the funeral home's license was suspended for six months.
The family of 22-month-old Chase Fine, whose family wished to have his remains cremated, was approved to receive $18,500 from the county.
