Missing woman's husband feels persecuted

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., July 20 (UPI) -- The husband of a missing Missouri woman says police are spending more time shadowing him than searching for her.

Clay Waller, the last known person to see Jacque Sue Waller June 1, tells the Southeast Missourian of Cape Girardeau investigators and the community are on a "witch hunt."

"I got a helicopter following me every day, police are following me," he said. "… The cops are not searching for my wife."

Police call Clay Waller a "person of interest" in the disappearance, and her family has accused him of involvement.

Jacque Waller, mother of 5-year-old triplets, was in Jackson, Mo., filing divorce papers, her family says. But Clay Waller said Tuesday she came only to discuss bankruptcy filings and that while they were separated, they were not at odds or estranged.

Ruby Rawson, Jacque Waller's mother, told the newspaper the couple were estranged and that her daughter had rented an apartment in Ste. Genevieve.

Jackson Police Chief James Humphreys called Waller's allegations "ludicrous."

Waller suspects his wife was kidnapped off Interstate 55, where her car was found abandoned after she was reported missing. Humphreys said investigators have never considered the case an abduction.
