More dust storms, wind hit Arizona

GLENDALE, Ariz., July 19 (UPI) -- More dust storms in Arizona's Pinal and Maricopa counties affected cities, reducing visibility to as little as 100 feet in some areas, meteorologists said.

Multiple thunderstorms Monday evening kicked up huge clouds of dust in three separate dust storms and brought wind gusts of 50 mph and heavy rains to Glendale, The Arizona Republic reported.

The National Weather Service issued a dust storm warning that lasted until 7 p.m., the newspaper said.

Some flights at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport experienced short delays while the dust storm passed through just before 6 p.m., authorities said.

Some 2,300 residents of the Salt River Project development in Glendale lost power, utility spokesman Scott Harrelson said.

The storms moved through the area at about 10 to 20 miles per hour, the National Weather Service said.
