ORLANDO, Fla., July 12 (UPI) -- Caylee Anthony's grandmother could face perjury charges for her testimony, Orange County, Fla., Sheriff Jerry Demings said Tuesday.
"We've had discussions with the State Attorney's Office. They will make a determination about [Cindy Anthony] in the near future," he said at a news conference reported by the Orlando Sentinel.
Demings endorsed a proposed Caylee's Law that would make it a felony to wait more than one hour to report a child's death or 24 hours to report a disappearance.
"It seems somewhat unbelievable that a loving mother or parent would not know where their daughter would be and wouldn't report the child missing," he said.
Deming's detectives defended their investigation of the missing Caylee, and one called Casey Anthony a proficient liar.
Investigator Yuri Melich, one of the first to question her July 15, 2008, said he had never seen a case with such elaborate deception.
"It was surreal," he said. "How could I not believe her?"
Casey Anthony, cleared of murder but convicted of lying to authorities, is expected to be freed from the Orange County jail Sunday.
