First test of Wisconsin recalls is Tuesday

MADISON, Wis., July 10 (UPI) -- Democrats trying to recall Republican state senators in six Wisconsin districts face their first test in primaries Tuesday.

The six are expected to easily beat "fake" Democrats supported by the GOP, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

County clerks say the primaries will cost the state more than $475,000.

Democratic state Rep. Jennifer Shilling, who is challenging Sen. Dan Kapanke in the La Crosse area of southwestern Wisconsin, said she is "taking the primary very seriously as a dry run for August," when the recall elections take place.

Democrats hope to channel outrage over GOP Gov. Scott Walker's bill to gut public employees' collective bargaining rights to flip at least three seats and capture the upper chamber.

Republicans are running recall campaigns against three Democratic senators.
