Casey Anthony refuses mom's visit

ORLANDO, Fla., July 8 (UPI) -- Cindy Anthony's attempt to visit her daughter in a Florida jail was rebuffed Friday, sources told ABC News.

Casey Anthony refused to see her parents as she awaited trial. Her mother's trip to the Orange County Jail is believed to be the first attempt by either parent to reach out to her since she was acquitted Tuesday of killing her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee.

Anthony is scheduled to be released July 17, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

Judge Belvin Perry sentenced Anthony Thursday to four years for lying to law enforcement, with credit for time served since 2008, the maximum possible after she was cleared of abusing and killing her daughter, Caylee.

Anthony was fined $4,000 and must pay $618 in other costs.

Prosecutors also want to make her pay for investigation and prosecution costs, which will be addressed at a hearing in August.

Later Thursday, Sheriff Jerry Demings issued a statement regretting Anthony's acquittal.

"For three long years, the citizens of Orange County, Fla., sought justice in the murder of Caylee Marie Anthony," he wrote. "Essentially, that process concluded today with the sentencing of Casey Anthony only on charges associated with lying to law enforcement officers."

But Demings said he respects the "findings of the jury because that is part of the criminal justice process."
